Just on the heels of being accepted into the American Chemistry Council’s (ACC) Responsible Care Partnership, Modern Transportation has also been certified by the OU as a kosher approved carrier.
“We have successfully collaborated with the OU to spec designated trailers and procedures for this exciting new opportunity”, stated Randy Sheeler, VP Sales at Modern Transportation. “We’re excited to partner with manufacturers of USP grade glycols and glycerins that fall within the kosher parameters.”
In the transportation industry, the definition of kosher is often misunderstood. “While most think kosher certification is limited to edible products, kosher also covers a wide range of personal care products”, adds Sheeler.
Adjusting equipment specifications was a significant part of the process. “Preparation for this service enhancement has been a tremendous learning experience”, shared Bob Smith, Sr. Director of Maintenance and Equipment for Modern. “In addition, the vast knowledge and attention to detail exhibited by members of the Rabbinical Council from whom we sought guidance were both impressive and inspiring.”
By virtue of their affiliation with the OU, Modern is now poised to market their service to large manufacturers of kosher products. Further, they recognize their quality standards are in tandem with the manufacturers they will serve going forward. “We are confident in our selection of OU”, concludes Patrick Cozzens, President of Modern, “and look forward to adding equipment and shippers as we expand our marketing efforts to transport kosher products.”
